Update

On Thursday, we saw partly-to-mostly sunny skies and temperatures that stayed in the upper teens to around 20°F.

On Friday, expect dry weather for most of the day with increasing clouds and a chance for a few showers during the afternoon.

On Friday night through Saturday morning, we’ll see our best chance for snow. Initially, on Friday afternoon and evening, a few bands of snow squalls will push from south-to-north, and then late on Friday night into Saturday morning, we’ll see the flow switch to the west and northwest with a better chance for consistent snow.

I’ll put a wide range on this storm with a chance for 2-7 inches between Friday afternoon and Saturday midday. The wide range reflects the inconsistency among the forecast models. If we happen to catch a few of the intense snow bands on Friday afternoon, or if the favorable northwest flow hangs around longer on Saturday morning, our totals could be on the higher end of the range. If these things do not happen, we’ll be on the lower end of the range.

No matter the amount, the best time to find the softest snow will be on Saturday morning.

Looking ahead, Sunday will be a cold day with a high temperature in the single digits and a mix of sun, clouds, and light snow showers. Monday and Tuesday will bring more sunshine and be slightly warmer with high temperatures in the teens.

From Tuesday night through Thursday, we should see light-to-moderate snowfall, and there is a chance that snow amounts could be more significant if the storm tracks farther south. Then there could be another system around Friday or Saturday, and models are hinting that additional storms could track toward Colorado during the first full week of January.
