Copper Mountain Daily Snow

By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 5 years ago December 30, 2019
Update
Sunday was a very cold day with temperatures just above 0°F, mostly cloudy skies, and a few snowflakes in the air.
Monday will try to be a bit warmer than Sunday with lots of sunshine and a high temperature close to 10°F.
Tuesday will be a more comfortable day with sunny skies and temperatures warming into the upper teens to low 20s. It’ll feel like a heatwave:-)
Then the atmosphere will go into snow-mode with three days of near-continuous snowfall from Wednesday midday through Saturday morning. If you like powder, these are three days that you’ll want to be on the hill.
Snow should start on Wednesday midday or afternoon and we could see a few inches by Wednesday evening. Then snow will continue to fall heavily on Wednesday night and Thursday morning should be a fun powder day with 3-6 inches on the morning snow report.
Additional waves of energy should keep the snow going on Thursday, Friday, and maybe even into Saturday morning. I cannot offer specific timing of when we’ll see the most intense snow on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, but I do know that the second and even third powder day in a row can offer the best riding since the base is super soft.
This storm’s duration and temperatures all point to excellent powder quality (light and fluffy) from Thursday through Saturday. The wind direction should be from the northwest for most of the storm, and this is a favorable direction to bring significant snow. If all factors align, the three-day snow total could be 10-18+ inches.
After the snow ends on Saturday morning, there will be more chances for storms around January 5-6, January 10, and likely after January 12th. We’ll talk more about the longer-range outlook once we get through the upcoming three-day storm cycle.
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
