Wednesday

Happy New Year!

Wednesday morning will dawn with dry weather, partly cloudy skies, and cold temperatures that are around -5°F at the base and +5°F at the summit.

Wednesday's weather will be partly sunny with a daytime high temperature of around 15°F. During the late afternoon, the next storm will arrive and snow should begin to fall.

Thursday

Thursday morning should start with 3-6 inches of powder which fell on Wednesday night, and there could be a few more inches of accumulation during the morning and midday.

There is upside potential with this storm due to the combination of the jet stream overhead and abundant moisture in the air.

Also, the temperature will warm during the storm, but in past storms like this, Copper's high elevation has still allowed it to get a healthy amount of snow, so I do not think that the warming temperatures will be an issue for snow totals. The warming temperatures and gusty winds could make the new snow a little more dense and surfy.

So on Thursday, enjoy the new snow in the morning, and expect the temperature to be in the upper teens to low 20s.

Friday

Friday will be dry, sunny, and warmer with a high temperature of 30-35°F.

Saturday

Saturday should be dry and warm with a high temperature in the low 30s, and it is possible that an incoming storm could produce some snow later in the day or during the evening.

Longer Range

From Sunday, January 5 through mid-January, Colorado will be on the southwestern edge of the storm track. During this time, multiple storms should brush by Colorado, and each of these systems could produce anything from a few flakes to many inches of snow. These storms are possible around January 5-7, January 10-ish, and January 14-ish.
