Next Week's Storm Trending Deeper, Active Pattern Continues

Summary

After today's high elevation snow wraps up, we'll be mainly dry through the weekend and the start of next week. There's at least three more storms to discuss as the pattern remains active over the next week to ten days.

Short Term Forecast

I am tracking three storms in the next ten days. The GIF below shows the sequence upper level troughs barreling through the Alps.

You can see these storms lined up across the Atlantic and into North America.

Approximate dats for these storms are Monday 10/30 to Tuesday 10/31, Thursday 11/2 to Saturday 11/4, and Saturday 11/4 to Sunday 11/5. I will have to adjust these time frames somewhat moving forward, but that should give you general idea.

The first storm looks solid, with snow levels around 2100 - 2400 m, and 10 - 25 cms across the French and Swiss Alps. The northern/western slopes should do best with this event, as winds will be out of the southwest initially but shift to northwest for the latter part of the storm. Totals will decrease heading east into the Austrian Alps and in the Italian Alps as well, outside of the northwestern areas near the Swiss border.

The second storm in this series is the one I am more excited about. This has the potential to be a long duration event, with the third storm in the series potentially arriving before storm number two has finished. A large area of the French and Swiss Alps could see .5 - 1 m of now, with around 25 - 50 cms in Austria.

This is still a LONG ways out though, so take these snow totals as a very early possibility, but here is one modeI's forecast for snowfall over the four day period.

I will continue to update this series of storms moving forward.
