Showery Period Persists Through Next Week

Summary

Showers from the latest system will linger through Wednesday. As the storm track shifts north with a ridge over Spain, additional rounds of showers are possible this weekend and early next week. A more active pattern is possible again during the last week of the month.

Short Term Forecast

The latest round of snow in this storm cycle is winding down on Wednesday, with snow showers lingering in the northern Alps of Austria. Only minor additional accumulations are expected. As this storm departs, a ridge will develop over Spain, directing the storm track north of the Alps and Pyrenees.

This shift will result in storms grazing the northern Alps, bringing additional rounds of rain and snow showers. The location of the ridge will direct warm air into the region as well. The best chances for showers will be Friday to Saturday and Monday to Tuesday. Each of these events could produce 5 - 20 cms in the northern Alps from France through Austria.

Extended Forecast

During the last week of the month, the models are hinting at another favorable pattern for snow in the Alps and Pyrenees. You can see the agreement in the American and European ensemble upper-level pattern below for March 28th.
