Idaho Daily Snow
By Steve Stuebner, Forecaster Posted 3 months ago November 29, 2023
Well, Heidi-Ho, here comes the snow! Turning the page to December on Friday, three back-to-back storms will move into Idaho and dump copious amounts of snow statewide. Bogus, Brundage and Tamarack are all forecast to get 20" + of new snow by Sunday, while Schweitzer, Silver, Lookout, Pom and Pebble will get over a foot. An AR event Mon-Tues will bring warm air and more precip following the snow.
Short Term Forecast
European ensemble forecast through Monday.
Broader view of the precipitation coming our way shows how the Cascade Range is really going to get hit hard, and BC as well!
We've got High Pressure, sunny skies up in the mountains and valley fog through Thursday morning. We'll move into a more unstable weather pattern on Thursday and the three back-to-back storms arrive on Friday and Friday night. 100% chance of snow statewide through the weekend, and we're forecast to get hit with 10-20" of new snow by Sunday night. Bring it on!
An AR system will approach the Northwest and Idaho by Sunday night/Monday, and send snow levels to mountain summits in the 6,300-foot range in Northern Idaho by Monday night. In the Central Mountains, the temps are expected to stay a bit cooler. Snow levels are expected to reach 7,000 feet by Monday night, above ski area base levels but not above the summits. We'll keep an eye on that in the days ahead.
Precipitable water content map shows 200% of normal precip coming by Monday with the AR event. That'll pack down the base we get with the snow over the weekend. That system is expected to continue warming through Tuesday and then move on ... could be messy with a lot of melt in the valleys from the warmer temps expected to be 10-15 above normal.
More precipitation is expected moving farther into next week.
We'll hope to see things cool down after the AR event and get more snow. We'll keep an eye on that.
Thanks for reading! My next forecast will be on Friday, Dec. 1.
