Presidential Powder

Summary

The parade of storms for the Rockies continued through Presidents Day weekend. Weaker storms will now continue to target areas in Canada and the central Rockies through Sunday, February 23rd. A much stronger storm will then slowly move through much of the West during the final week of February.

Short Term Forecast

We'll get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts from Thursday, February 13th through the morning of Monday, February 17th.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Jackson Hole: 41"

Alta: 21"

Snowbird: 20"

Big Sky: 15"

Banff Sunshine: 13"

Forecast

The forecast played out as expected over the past week as Alta/Snowbird, Big Sky, and Jackson Hole picked up healthy totals for Presidents Day weekend.

For the week of February 17th, it will be generally quiet for all locations as weaker storms slide into the West and through the Northeast. Locations in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado will receive additional snow on Monday and into Tuesday, February 18th, followed by a blast of cold air and snow for Sugarbush, Vermont into Wednesday, February 19th.

Following the early week snow, Wednesday through Friday will be dry for most locations, with temperatures gradually warming up throughout the week. Taos, New Mexico will be the one area to watch for light totals on Wednesday and into Thursday as a storm sweeps through the southwest.

For Saturday and into Sunday, February 23rd, light snow will target California and bring a much-needed refresh to the slopes of Squaw Alpine and Mammoth. Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise, and Revelstoke will also be on watch as chances for snow begin to ramp up across the Northwest.

Extended Forecast

Our full attention will then shift to the week of February 24th as a stronger storm dives into the West. The details will be worked out over the next 7 days but it's very encouraging to see storm-after-storm for much of the West as we head into the final days of February and likely into early March.

Stay tuned to our 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, February 24th.
