North = Best

Summary

For the first week of March, the deepest snow will be in the North, with mostly quiet conditions elsewhere. Looking ahead to the weekend of March 7th and 8th, the storm train will likely return to the West Coast and bring snow to many locations through Tuesday, March 10th.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts from Thursday, February 27th through the morning of Monday, March 2nd

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Squaw Alpine: 12"

Banff Sunshine: 11"

Lake Louise: 10"

Alta: 8"

Aspen Highlands: 8"

Forecast

It will be a relatively quiet week for many locations as the main storm track shifts north and brings the goods to Revelstoke, Lake Louise, and Banff Sunshine. Multiple waves will continue to bring soft conditions each day, with Wednesday and Friday looking like the best days to enjoy the fresh.

Elsewhere, we will be in a holding pattern. It was great to see Mammoth and Squaw Alpine pick up fresh snow for the morning of Sunday, March 1st and already pass their February snow totals! They will get back in on the action over the weekend of March 7th and 8th and hopefully well into the middle of March.

For skiing outside of Canada, stick to the groomers and north-facing aspects for the best turns. I enjoyed great turns from 7 inches of fresh snow at Jackson Hole on Sunday, March 1st, with the best conditions on the north-facing aspects off of Sublette and Thunder chairs.

Very mild temperatures will settle in across the West on Thursday, March 5th and Friday, March 6th so expect full-on spring skiing and soft conditions on many aspects of the mountains each afternoon.

Extended Forecast

Following the spring-like conditions during the second half of the week, we'll turn our full attention to Sunday, March 8th as the storm train returns to the Western US and bring many locations their next chance for measurable accumulations through the week of March 9th.

Stay tuned to our 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, March 9th.
