The Start of a Trend, Hopefully

Summary

Another weak storm will bring light to moderate snow to the central region on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will feature a break in the action before the next storm moves in Friday night. Over the last few days, the models have trended a bit stronger for this system and overall stronger for the period into next week.

Short Term Forecast

The central zone will see some light to moderate snow on Wednesday to the tune of 10 - 20 cm in the central zone. Temperatures fell overnight and will continue to do so during the day, with mainly snow expected at all elevations. Snow should wrap up in the evening with things drying out thereafter.

Thursday and most of Friday will stay dry as well ahead of the next system arriving Friday night. As this storm first sits off the coast, mainly light snow will fall, and mainly in the northern zone. As the storm comes onshore, a period of heavier snow is expected starting on Sunday and continuing through Monday. This has the potential to bring 20 - 40 cm in the northern zone and 15 - 30 cm in the central.

This is an increase in the totals the models were previously showing, so I am not confident in these amounts just yet. Just yesterday the models were showing even bigger totals but backed off in the evening runs. The bottom line is that a bit more time is needed for the models to sort this out.

Overall though, I would keep an eye on Monday and Tuesday for possible decent to very good powder days. Below is an early look at snow totals from Friday through later next week to give you an idea of what this storm could bring.

Extended Forecast

The models favor a break in the action later next week and then more storms for the weekend. The signal is not strong, however, but that's not surprising considering that is more than ten days out.

Next update on Friday.
