Weekend Break...

Summary

Snow showers continuing today but mainly West of the lake along the Sierra crest where a few additional inches may accumulate. Then a break Sunday ahead of the next storm. Winds still expected to gust 50-60 mph on the mountain tops. Sunday night into Monday another storm pushes through with snow levels falling below lake level. By Monday night we could see 5-13 inches at lake level, and 6-20 inches on the mountains. Winds could gust to 75 mph on the mountain tops Monday. Tuesday an atmospheric river takes aim at Northern CA. Snow levels start low with a few inches possible at lake level but snow levels rise quickly to 8000 feet. Above 8000' 5-10 inches possible. Then snow levels rise to 9000 feet Tuesday night and possibly higher Wednesday with a rain event for the Tahoe basin that may last into Thursday. Thursday night into Friday a cold front moves through bringing another round of precipitation and crashing snow levels below lake level. We could see a few inches at lake level and over a foot of new snow on the mountains. Expecting break as a ridge builds in next weekend. That break may only last 5-6 days before a large trough in the Pacific may push near the West Coast re-opening the storm door.
