The 10+ day outlook

Summary

Our next chance for snow will range from Tuesday to Thursday morning.

Update

The weekend storm stayed well north of the mountain and we were not able to get any additional flakes.

The atmosphere usually balances things out over time, though, and for the upcoming week, a storm will track to the south of Colorado from Tuesday through Thursday and will bring a higher chance for snow to Telluride here in the southern mountains.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we could see snow showers with light accumulations, and high temperatures will range from the upper 20s to the low 30s.

And then from later on Wednesday to earlier on Thursday, we will have a higher chance for a period of steadier snow and could see anything from 1-6 inches of accumulation, with some powder possible by Thursday morning.

The Tuesday to Thursday storm will be cut off from the main west-to-east flow of weather and will wobble around a bit. Since forecasts for cut-off storms are usually less accurate than other storms, we will keep a close eye on this storm as the forecast is likely to change throughout the week.

Then from Friday, December 15 to Wednesday, December 20, we will be in a dry weather pattern with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.

Our next chance for stormy weather will begin on or after about Thursday, December 21st. During the final ten days of December, the longer-range forecast guidance shows a decent chance that storminess over the west coast will move east and bring snow to Colorado, but this favorable change in the weather pattern could take a while to develop, and meaningful snow may not arrive until closer to Christmas.

We will hold on to our current snowpack due to the low sun angle now in mid-December, so that's good news. But after this week, we might need to wait until closer to Christmas for the next significant storm.
