Storm Recap
The storm on Monday performed well with 4 inches at mid-mountain (earlier forecasts showed the storm staying north, so I am happy that Telluride picked up any amount of snow). On Monday night the storm wrapped up, and Tuesday was clear and cold with a high temperature in the single digits to low teens.
Wednesday & Thursday
Wednesday and Thursday will be partly cloudy with times of clouds filtering/blocking the sunshine, and daytime high temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, which is nicely warmer than the past two days.
Next Storms
While the weather pattern will not be favorable for significant snow, at least we'll see a few weak storms bring snow to the mountain during the next seven days. Each of these storms will likely bring more snow to areas north of Telluride, but Telluride should at least see some flakes.
- Friday, December 13: Snow is likely on Friday into Friday evening with a dusting to 2 inches of accumulation. The softest conditions could be Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
- Sunday, December 15: Snow is likely on Sunday midday, afternoon, and evening with a dusting to 2 inches of accumulation. The softest conditions could be Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
- Wednesday, December 18: I have low confidence about the forecast for this storm. Stay tuned.
Longer Range
The weather pattern will likely be unfavorable for significant storms through most of the rest of December, but we at least could see additional snowfall from a storm around December 23-25. Then the longest-range forecasts show a higher chance for colder and stormier weather during early January, but that's nearly one month into the future, so take that outlook with a big grain of salt.
In terms of snow quality, we have a solid base and the low sun angle of December will continue to preserve our snowpack, so we're in an okay spot even if we do not see significant storms for the rest of the month.
