Thursday
Thursday will start with an inversion (colder temperatures at the base, warmer temperatures at the summit) and the rest of the day will be partly cloudy with a high temperature in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Next Storms
While the weather pattern will not be favorable for significant snow during the next two weeks, at least we'll see a few weak storms move through Colorado during seven days. Each of these storms will likely track to the north of Telluride, but there will be a few chances for flakes.
- Friday, December 13: We might see a few flakes and light accumulations between Friday midday and Friday midnight, though the storm will mostly track to our north.
- Sunday, December 15: Again, we might see a few flakes and light accumulations between Sunday morning and Sunday night, though the storm will mostly track to our north.
- Wednesday, December 18: Snow is possible on Tuesday night or Wednesday, though I continue to have low confidence in the details. Pencil in the chance for some flakes and maybe slightly softer conditions on Wednesday.
Longer Range
For the rest of December, the weather pattern will likely be unfavorable for significant storms. We might see a storm around December 23-26, but that's grasping at straws just a bit.
In terms of snow quality, we have a solid base and the low sun angle of December will continue to preserve our snowpack, so we're in an okay spot even if we do not see significant storms for the rest of the month.
In early January, the longest-range forecasts show a higher chance for colder and stormier weather. Because this stormier signal for early January has been in the longer-range forecasts for the last one to two weeks, the persistence of this signal increases confidence that it will happen.
