Powder from coast-to-coast

Summary

For the rest of the week, western Canada will see 1-2 feet of snow while the northeast gets 3-6 inches. Then over the weekend, the best powder will be along the west coast from Canada south to California. And by next week, the action along the west coast should spread inland through the Rockies.

Short Term Forecast

Powder!

There were deep powder days across the Rockies around New Years, with 12-20 inches in Wyoming on Sunday, 7-14 inches in Utah on Monday, and 22-32 inches in southern Colorado on Tuesday. Below was the scene at Wolf Creek, in southern Colorado, on Tuesday, January 1st, with 32 inches of blower (light, fluffy) powder!

Forecast for Thursday & Friday

The action for the rest of the week will be in the northwest and northeast. For British Columbia, Canada, and northern Washington State expect 1-2 FEET of snow, with 6-12 inches spilling over to Alberta, Canada. To the east in New England, we’ll see 3-6 inches by Thursday afternoon.

Forecast for the weekend

If you are in search of powder this weekend, head west! British Columba, Washington, and Oregon will all do well, and California will also get in on the action. Accumulations should be 1-2+ FEET and the best snow should be on Sunday into Monday.

Forecast for next week

Take a look at the map below and tell me if it doesn’t make you smile – snow from coast-to-coast!

The northwest will continue to see snow with a potentially significant storm early in the week. California and the Rockies should see snow early in the week and then another storm later in the week. And the northeast will get back on the storm train with powder possible on Tuesday into Wednesday.

Extended Forecast

The outlook for January 12-16

The longer-range 10-15 day forecast shows that the eastern 2/3rds of North America could trend warmer while additional storms may target the west coast.
