Snow everywhere, deepest West Coast & Northeast

Summary

The week will start with a Monday powder day for most areas around the western US and Canada, and then we’ll see a strong storm bring snow to the northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Not to be outdone, the west coast will see additional storms later in the week and over the weekend.

Short Term Forecast

Powder!

The map below shows the snow reports on Sunday morning, January 6th, and there is new snow from coast-to-coast with the deepest reports in California.

This map will be one-day old by the time you see it on Monday morning, so go here to see the most recent map (Explore > Deepest Reports).

Forecast for Monday to Friday

There is no better way to start the week than to have a powder day, and that’s what we will have for most of the west coast and Rockies on Monday.

In the northeast, a storm will swing through on Tuesday with some snow, then a second system should bring more cold air and snow from Tuesday night through Wednesday, so we could have back-to-back powder days in New England during the middle of the week.

Then we’ll yo-yo back to look at the west coast, where additional storms should hit later in the week into the upcoming weekend.

If you’re searching for the best powder, the west coast will see the most storms during the week, but don’t overlook the Rockies early in the week and the northeast during the middle of the week!

Forecast for the weekend

The west will be best over the weekend. While a lot of the US and Canada should be dry, it appears that another storm will hit California and the southwest, and additional light snow could move into British Columbia in western Canada.

Extended Forecast

The outlook for January 14-18

Once the atmosphere gets in a rut, sometimes the same weather pattern can continue for weeks. This looks like the case through the middle of January as the active weather on the west coast should stick around through at least the 18th.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Thursday, January 10.
