The storm track is locked in

Summary

The weather pattern will stay about the same for the next 7 days with cold air and storminess from the Rockies eastward. The best snow should be along the Rockies, the Upper Midwest, and at times over the Northeast.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Thursday & Friday

There will be powder in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado on Thursday with some snow lingering into Friday as well. In the east, a storm will bring rain to all but the northernmost areas of New England on Thursday with cold air returning on Thursday evening for snowfall through Friday.

Forecast for the weekend

The details of the snow forecast will change over the weekend, but the pattern will be similar to the last few days of the week. Look for storms to come from the northern Rockies (Alberta, Montana) and then head east into the Upper Midwest and the Northeast.

Extended Forecast

The outlook for next week (January 28 – February 1)

The atmosphere will lock in the storm track through the end of January with VERY cold temperatures over the Upper Midwest where readings could be 25F degrees below average. This pattern also means that the chances for at least some snow will be along the eastern edge of the Rockies, across the Upper Midwest, and then over to New England.

The outlook for next month (February 2-6)

Following 10+ days of the same weather pattern, we should see a change during the first few days of February. This could bring snow back to the Northwest (solid pink line below) and storms also might sneak into California and the interior west (dashed pink line below).

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, January 28.
