Northwest & Rockies targeted for next week

Summary

The atmosphere is stuck in a rut and that’s good news if you like snow in the Northwest and the Rockies. Washington and British Columbia will continue to see snow through the weekend, then a stronger storm will hit the Rockies on Monday and Tuesday.

Short Term Forecast

Grand Targhee, Wyoming

We love powder because of mornings like this. Sunny skies, a soft base thanks to nine straight days of snow (total: 37”), seven inches of fluff overnight, and first chair.

Forecast for Thu, Jan 30 – Fri, Jan 31

The storm track will continue to favor the Northwest with just light snow amounts over the Northern and Central Rockies. Consistent snowfall is the name of the game, and these regions have been in the zone for the past two-plus weeks.

Forecast for Sat, Feb 1 – Sun, Feb 2

Unfortunately for the Northeast, the possible Nor’ Easter will develop too far to the east to bring much snow to most ski areas, though there should be at least light-to-moderate accumulations thanks to trailing moisture and a northwest wind behind the storm. Farther west, most of the Rockies will enjoy two warm and dry days, and in the Northwest, the next storm will bring intense snow to British Columbia, Alberta, and Washington on Friday into Saturday.

Forecast for Mon, Feb 3 – Tue, Feb 4

The storm that will hit the Northwest during the weekend will track southeast and bring snow to most of the Rockies from Monday through Tuesday. But don’t worry about the Northwest as yet another storm should arrive on Tuesday with snow continuing through the middle of the week.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Wed, Feb 5 – Sun, Feb 9

The end of next week into the following weekend should produce a storm track that will bring consistent snow to the Northwest, the Northern Rockies, and the Central Rockies. This includes British Columbia, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and northern Colorado.

Thanks so much for reading and please check back for my next post on Monday, February 3rd.
