Southern Utah Storm
Summary
Dry weather continues today. A storm will spin up into the southern half of Utah on Saturday bringing snow to the mountains. Northern Utah should stay dry thru the weekend, but will have a chance for light snow on Monday as a weak system brushes the area.
Short Term Forecast
Yesterday's forecast was about uncertainty as models had trended farther north with the precipitation, giving parts of northern Utah a chance for snow this weekend. However, models have once again gone the other direction and this now looks to be an exclusively Southern Utah storm.
Snow should begin in southern Utah by Saturday morning and continue thru Saturday night. Over a foot of snow at Eagle Point and Brian Head is likely. This is welcome news as southern Utah as been pretty dry the last couple months after a good start to the season in early December. Sunday could be a very good powder day down south, and perhaps one worth chasing for desperate northern Utah folks.
As for the Wasatch, we will be dry thru the weekend but will see an increase in clouds from the southern system. Once that system clear out on Sunday, we will have a short break before another system moves in on Monday. This one will just brush northern Utah and looks to be quite weak. I'd say the best we can hope for is just a few inches.
Extended Forecast
We are in a dry pattern to end February. Big storms are no showing up on operational runs of the models. Long-range ensembles do continue to hint at a better pattern developing in the March 3-7 timeframe, but confidence in that is low.
