Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Winter Park Daily Snow

Update

Tuesday was a beautiful, sunny day with high temperatures around 35F at mid-mountain. Ah, springtime in the Rockies!

Most of Tuesday night was dry, then clouds and snow showers moved into the Winter Park area right around 600 am on Wednesday morning, at least a few hours earlier than what I said would happen in yesterday’s forecast. This surprise is indicative of the weather pattern that we are going to see between Wednesday morning and Thursday night, with waves of precipitation that are difficult to time.

There is very little agreement across the various short-term, high-resolution models about the exact timing and amount of snow, so I am going to have to talk in generalities.

Expect periods of snow on Wednesday, Wednesday night, Thursday, and Thursday evening. The total accumulation during this time should be in the 2-4 or 3-6 inch range. We’ll need some luck for the more intense cells to hit Winter Park and drop more significant snow totals.

Following the snow on Wednesday and Wednesday evening, conditions might be the softest on Thursday morning. If we see another wave of snow on Thursday afternoon, there might also be soft conditions on Friday morning. All of this snow will likely not be enough to soften the non-groomed terrain, but at least the groomers should ski well with fresh snow on corduroy.

Following the two days of snow on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be dry.

Then the next storm will bring snow on Saturday night and Sunday. Like the current storm, this one is difficult to time, and snow amounts look light (just a few inches). The best chance for a bit of powder will likely be on Sunday morning.

After that, I think we’ll see mostly dry weather next week, with a more significant storm sometime between April 6-9.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
