Powder and sunshine this weekend

Summary

Saturday will offer powder in the morning, and Sunday will offer more sunshine and warmer temperatures. That sounds like a perfect weekend!

Update

The storm worked out better than we expected with snow starting to fall on Friday afternoon, intense snow on Friday night, and lingering yet intense (at times) snow showers now on Saturday morning.

The total new snow is about 12 inches at mid-mountain as of Saturday morning – we wound up busting through the high end of the 5-10 inch range, woohoo! The wind direction blew more from the northwest-and north-northwest (compared to the west-northwest direction that was forecast) and this likely helped to deliver the additional snow.

This foot of snow might be enough to cover the harder base underneath, at least on many of the less steep slopes.

Saturday's weather will be a mix of snow showers with a few inches of additional snow accumulation in the morning, and then we will trend toward drier weather and maybe some breaks of sunshine by later in the day and into the evening. The high temperature should be in the upper teens to mid-20s. This is the time of the season when the high angle of the sun can turn new snow into manky mush within minutes, so get after the new snow as early in the day as possible!

Sunday will then give us a taste of spring with partly sunny skies and a high temperature in the 30s. It'll be a lovely end to the weekend, a two-day stretch that will offer us both mid-winter and mid-spring conditions. We can't ask for much more than that!

Looking ahead to next week, Monday will start dry, then there will be snow showers during the middle of the day. On Tuesday, we should also start with drier weather, then the next storm could deliver moderate or even significant snow totals from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.
