Europe Daily Snow

More Pow Days This Week
Summary
Heavy snow is falling across the Alps and Pyrenees today, and that will continue through Wednesday. Significant accumulations are expected, with good powder days on the way. The next storm, arriving on Wednesday night, will favor the Pyrenees but will bring more snow to the Alps through Thursday. One to two more storms are possible starting on Friday as well.
Short Term Forecast
I am currently on a 15-hour flight to Japan, but I am watching Europe closely as this latest storm brings snow to the Alps and Pyrenees. The storm is still on track to bring significant accumulations to a wide area of the Alps. It's always great to see storms that don't just favor one side of the range.
We are still in the relatively warm phase of the storm, but a cold front will move through on Monday night, and heavy snow will continue. The central Frech Alps, which benefit from southwest, west, and northwest flow, will do best as the winds transition from southwest to west-northwest overnight. The splitting low will continue to give the wind on the southern side of the Alps a southerly component through Tuesday, keeping the heavy snow going there as well.
Below is the latest snow forecast for the Alps.
Later in the week, another low will bring additional snow to Western Europe, with the focus remaining on the Pyrenees. The far southwestern Alps will also see some accumulating snow, but totals remain unclear given the snow's sensitivity to the storm track. Similarly, another even weaker low may drop down from the north and set up south of the Alps, keeping the chances for snow going through the weekend.
Extended Forecast
Overall, the models have ridging over central Europe later next week, so we may see a break in the actions. The signal isn't overly strong though, so let's keep an eye on the upper-levels for some favorable changes in the coming days.
My next post will be on Thursday.
Thanks for reading the Europe Daily Snow!
