All eyes on the Northern Rockies

Summary

The Collective Resorts of the Northern Rockies will be favored for the deepest totals this week, with Jackson Hole on Wednesday morning as my Collective pick of the week. California could receive deeper amounts next weekend but confidence is low at this time.

Short Term Forecast

As expected, we had a fairly quiet week across the Collective Resorts for the week of December 3rd but consistent snowfall kept great conditions in place for the Aspen Snowmass destinations.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Aspen Highlands: 13"

Snowmass: 9"

Aspen Mountain: 8"

Squaw Valley: 6"

Taos: 5"

The other exciting news from this past weekend was the opening of KT-22 at Squaw Valley. This is one of the rowdiest chairlifts across North America so it's great to see it already spinning during the first half of December!

Heading into the week of December 10th, our focus will shift north as the storm train locks onto the Northern Rockies, with lower amounts for areas further south.

Look for periods of heavy snow at Revelstoke, Lake Louise, and Banff Sunshine, with Tuesday and Wednesday being great opportunities to catch fresh turns.

Further south, Big Sky and especially Jackson Hole will be in the sweet spot for heavy snow on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, along with Alta, Snowbird, and Snowbasin on Wednesday. If I were to choose one spot this week, my pick would be Jackson Hole on Wednesday morning.

Extended Forecast

Looking ahead to the second half of the week, Revelstoke, Lake Louise, and Banff Sunshine will continue to see their totals stack up. We'll then be watching for powder potential in California on Friday and again around Sunday, December 16th.

There is still a lot of uncertainty but keep an eye on Mammoth and Squaw Valley for the weekend turns. California Snow Forecaster Bryan Allegretto will have all of the details in the Tahoe Daily Snow, Squaw/Alpine Daily Snow, and Mammoth Daily Snow so stay tuned.

Looking even further ahead, additional storms will try to push into the western United States during the week of December 17th but early signals are keeping the focus on areas further north.

Thanks for reading and look for our next update on Monday, December 17th!
