Opportunities

Summary

Canada took home the highest totals during the week of December 16th. The focus will now shift back to the central and southern Rockies to start the week of December 23rd before the snow machine focuses on Canada and the southern Rockies as we head into the final days of 2019.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts from Thursday, December 19th through Monday, December 23rd.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Banff Sunshine: 21"

Lake Louise: 21"

Squaw Valley: 14"

Alpine Meadows: 11"

Revelstoke: 10"

Forecast

As I forecasted in December 16th's report, the Canadian destinations stole the show for the week. Banff Lake Louise picked up 21 inches, while Revelstoke picked up 6 inches for Wednesday, December 18th and 9 inches for Friday, December 20th.

We'll now turn to a moisture-laden system that is currently delivering light to moderate totals to Squaw Alpine and Mammoth on Monday and Tuesday before it shifts east and delivers more light to moderate totals for Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado through Christmas Day.

In general, all Collective destinations in the Intermountain West will receive 2-8 inches from Monday night through Christmas Day. My pick would be Alta/Snowbird for Tuesday and Jackson Hole on Christmas morning for the best turns.

After a quieter day on Thursday, we'll be watching for two systems that will impact the Canadian destinations over the weekend of December 27th through the 29th and another for Taos, New Mexico. Taos could be a good chase if you're looking for opportunities around Saturday, December 28th.

Keep an eye on the British Columbia Daily Snow and New Mexico Daily Snow for the latest updates throughout the week.

Extended Forecast

The forecast then becomes a bit murky as we look further ahead to the final days of 2019 and early 2020. For the West, it generally looks cool but quiet. Canada will continue to be a good choice as their snowpack hovers near average to above-average and storms continue to push inland off the Pacific.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, December 30th.
