Northern Rockies Love

Summary

The powder wave will transition and target the destinations in the Northern Rockies to kick-off 2020. Revelstoke be DEEP to start the week, followed by Jackson Hole, Alta/Snowbird, and Aspen Snowmass on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Additional rounds of snow follow for the Canadian resorts on Saturday, January 4th. Stormy pattern continues for the West after January 10th.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts from Thursday, December 26th through the morning of Monday, December 30th.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Snowbird: 19"

Taos: 15"

Alta: 15"

Aspen Mountain: 12"

Aspen Highlands: 11"

Forecast

Taos stole the show over the past 5 days with 15 inches on Saturday, December 28th and Sunday, December 29th. This was on top of 9 inches that fell earlier in the week.

It's now a very exciting forecast if you have a Mountain Collective Pass and are looking to chase to end 2019 and kick-off the 2020's with DEEP conditions! The storm train has shifted and will now target the spine of the Rockies from Monday, December 30th through Monday, January 6th.

It will all get started in Canada as Revelstoke will receive healthy totals on Tuesday, December 31st and into Wednesday, January 1st. The SkiBig3 destinations will also receive a light refresh but they will have to wait until later in the week for the chance at deeper totals.

Further south, the storm train will begin to march down into Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado beginning Tuesday night. Every destination will be in the cross-hairs for deep totals on Wednesday and Thursday.

My choice would be Jackson Hole on Wednesday, January 1st (storm skiing), followed by Alta/Snowbird on Thursday, January 2nd, and Aspen Snowmass on Friday, January 3rd. You really can't go wrong so get out there and enjoy!

Extended Forecast

The fun will then transition back up into Canada on Friday, January 3rd and into Saturday, January 4th. Keep an eye on the British Columbia Daily Snow for the latest updates.

Looking further ahead, there could be another wave for the Intermountain West on Monday, January 6th that could target Big Sky and Jackson Hole. There are then encouraging signs for much of the West beginning around Friday, January 10th. We'll get into those details in next week's update.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, January 6th.
