Northwest Storm Train

Summary

The Collective destinations in Canada and the Northern Rockies will continue to receive storm after storm through at least the middle of January. It's a GREAT time to be chasing snow and riding the powder wave.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts from Thursday, January 2nd through the morning of Monday, January 6th.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Jackson Hole: 35"

Snowbird: 34"

Alta: 25"

Banff Sunshine: 16"

Lake Louise: 14"

Forecast

The powder party is just getting started for many Collective destinations across the Northern Rockies heading into the week of January 6th.

We'll start in Canada where Revelstoke will continue to be in the sweet spot for deep totals. Target Tuesday, January 7th for the deep, followed again by another good-looking system around Saturday, January 11th.

Jackson Hole was the big winner over the past 5 days after receiving nearly 3 FEET and they will continue to receive healthy totals through the weekend of January 11th and 12th. Keep an eye on Thursday, January 9th, followed by Sunday, January 12th for deep turns and stay tuned to my latest updates on the Jackson Hole Daily Snow

Elsewhere, Alta/Snowbird will see weaker systems roll into Little Cottonwood Canyon beginning on Wednesday, January 8th. According to Utah Forecaster Evan Thayer "...the main point I want to make is that there is potential for significant accumulation over the next 10 days or so. With the rapid-fire nature of this pattern, we may be looking at many modest powder days in a row rather than one huge powder day."

Aspen Snowmass should also receive moderate totals from the evening of Wednesday, January 8th through Friday, January 10th, followed by another wave of snow beginning Sunday, January 12th.

Aspen Highlands would be a great choice to explore over the weekend of January 11th and 12th as soft snow from earlier in the week will lead into "soft on soft" conditions by the end of the weekend.

Extended Forecast

Looking further ahead, the storm train will continue to target Canada and the northern half of the western United States. After a longer break, Squaw Alpine and Mammoth should also join the fun as we head into the middle of January. Lots of good choices if you're on the search for fresh Collective turns.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, January 13th.
