We'll start with the BIG news out of California from the final week of January.
The automated snow forecast on OpenSnow called for 69 inches at Squaw Alpine from January 25-29 and that's exactly what they received.
The data that we present on OpenSnow won't always be this accurate but it is amazing to see modern weather technology accurately predict nearly 7 FEET over a 5-day window.

Further south, we called for nearly 9 FEET at Mammoth and they picked up 8-10 FEET from the base to the summit of the mountain during the week of January 25th. This is exactly what California needed after a rough start to the season.
Moving onto the forecast, the storm track has shifted east and the destinations in the northern and central Rockies will now be in the sweet spot for consistent snow over the next 7+ days.
The big winners will be Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole in the Teton Range of Wyoming, along with Aspen Snowmass in Colorado. The Tetons will receive upwards of 2-3 FEET over the next 5 days and Aspen Snowmass will be looking at 12-24 inches through Saturday, February 6th.
Outside of these destinations, Big Sky in Montana and Alta/Snowbird in Utah will also do well. Pick any of these destinations to enjoy the goods during the first 10 days of February.
Extended Forecast
Looking further ahead to February 10th and beyond, quick, slider storms will continue to move from the northwest to the southeast and this will keep the northern and central Rockies active through the middle of the month.
Keep an eye on Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Alta/Snowbird, and Aspen Snowmass for the goods during this time. The sun angle is still low for the next couple of weeks so take advantage of chasing to your destination of choice. You won't regret it.
Squaw Alpine and Mammoth could get back in the action towards the middle of the month so that will be something to monitor.
As always, stay up-to-date with our team of local forecasters. They will provide you with excellent local analysis and really help you dial in the details with updates every morning.
