Quiet Through Friday

Summary

The number of open resorts is shrinking as one of the biggest storms of the season just ended. Conditions are great at the resorts that are still open and after a short break, we return to a more active pattern.

Short Term Forecast

Wednesday through Friday morning will remain dry and feature a warming trend starting on Thursday. On Friday, the southern storm track becomes active once again and several disturbances will move through the region over the next seven to ten days.

After the short break, rain and snow showers return as early as midday Friday in the central zone. Temperatures will be warm and snow levels high before the cold front arrives on Sunday. Snow levels will climb up to 1850 - 2100 m by Sunday morning in the central zone, and closer to 2700 m in the north. This will result in rain at the bases and up to mid mountain at most resorts.

Precipitation will be showery on Friday and Saturday before a stronger wave arrives Saturday night. We'll have a period of moderate to heavy rain on the mountains through Sunday afternoon before snow levels begin to fall. After the changeover to snow, the precipitation will remain moderate to heavy as additional disturbances swing through. This should continue through Tuesday before becoming more showery.

This will lead to some decent totals by the middle of next week. Corralco may be the best bet for this storm cycle given its higher elevation. The latest snow forecast from the European model is shown below.

Extended Forecast

Later next week, the models show another storm arriving as early as Thursday. The strength and location of this storm remain unclear, but I'll update you on that on Friday.
