Stormy Through Early Next Week

Summary

One small and one large storm will bring more snow to the Andes through the early part of next week. Snow will be on the denser side next week, but with many esorts still open, there will be more powder days. We may finally see a more prolonged break later next week.

Short Term Forecast

A small storm will bring rain and snow mainly to the central and southern zones today (Friday) through Saturday. A stronger storm will be right on its heels that will eventually pull in some colder air and bring snow levels down.

Snow will pick up across the southern half of the central zone on Friday as cold air still hangs on across the region. By Friday night, a warm front will arrive and cause snow levels to rise above mid-mountain for most resorts. We'll see snow up high with rain down low for part of Friday night through Sunday before cooler air arrives.

Once it does, however, moderate to heavy snow will fall through Tuesday night. By Monday morning, snow levels should fall back below base elevations and snow quality will improve up high. The heaviest snow is expected Sunday night through Tuesday morning, with lighter snow after. Below are the expected snow totals for this storm.

Overall, this is a solid storm for late September. Winds do look strong on Sunday and Monday however, especially in the southern half of the central zone. I would expect some lift closures as a result.

Extended Forecast

The storm should move out Tuesday night with a drying trend beginning on Wednesday. From then through Sunday should be mostly dry, with the exception of some rain showers on Friday as a storm passes to the southeast.

Next update on Monday.
