Still Snowing to Close Out September
Summary
Snow continues in the central zone in the final days of September but the winds have been strong. More snow is expected through Tuesday morning with a decrease in temperauyres and wind. The pattern finally slows down with a gradual warming trend through the weekend. A storm is possible in the north early next week.
Short Term Forecast
Temperatures have been warm over the last few days but upper elevations in the central zone received 5 - 15 cm. Winds were quite strong and Corralco wasn't able to open yesterday. The cold front will continue to move north through the region lowering snow levels below the bases.
Moderate to heavy snow will fall throughout Monday and into Tuesday morning before tapering to showers. Solid additional accumulations are expected and snow quality will improve as well. The latest snow forecast from the European model for today (Monday) through Tuesday is shown below. Corralco, Las Araucarias, Antillanca, and Caviahue should do best.
Tuesday definitely has the potential to be a quality late September powder day. After the storm wraps up Tuesday afternoon/evening, a ridge will develop and dominate the region through the end of the week.
Extended Forecast
Later in the weekend a storm will take a northerly track and bring snow back to the northern zone. With Valle Nevado and La Parva still open, its worth watching.
Next update on Wednesday.
