A Break Following This Latest Stormy Stretch

Summary

It was a snowy weekend and start to the week in the Andes but things are finally calming down. After a dry spell from Wednesday through Sunday, the northern zone will start to see the impact of a storm later in the weekend that will continue through midweek.

Short Term Forecast

It was deep at Corralco and for closing day at Cerro Catedral. Both saw at least 40 cm + from what I could gather. We're down to just a handful of open resorts now, Corralco, Chapelco, Valle Nevado, and La Parva, but there are still more storms to watch.

Wednesday through Sunday should remain dry before the next system approaches Sunday night. There are some inconsistencies on exactly when the precipitation will start, but it should be sometime Sunday evening through Monday morning. This storm will take a northerly track and likely start out on the warm side with mainly rain before a cold front arrives Monday night.

Once the cold front moves through, a period of moderate to heavy snow is expected through Wednesday morning, favoring the northern zone. This storm looks like it could bring around 15 - 30 cm to Valle Nevado and the latest forecast from the European model is shown below.

Extended Forecast

Another storm may move into the south later next week with more snow possible into the weekend.

Next update on Friday.
