Sunday
Sunday will be similar to Saturday with cooler temperatures at the base in the morning. And then we'll see some high clouds filtering the sunshine during the day with a high temperature in the mid-30s.
December 23-31
For the rest of 2024, multiple storms will move through Colorado with a respectable total snowfall of potentially 4-8+ inches, and conditions should soften and improve. This is good news.
While no single storm in this series will likely bring significant/deep snow, the combination of light-to-moderate snow totals across the next nine days should create softer conditions.
- Monday/Tuesday (Dec 23-24). This storm will likely stay too far to the north to bring much snow. The best chance for flakes will be on Monday evening, but it is a low chance.
- Wednesday/Thursday (Dec 25-26). A stronger storm will track over southern Colorado. There should be 3-5 inches of snow from Wednesday morning through the late afternoon or evening, and this should lead to softer conditions on Wednesday. This should be a nice treat for Christmas Day and the first night of Chanukkah.
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday (Dec 27-29). Multiple storms will zoom across northern Colorado. Initially, it appeared that these storms would track too far to the north to bring much snow to Telluride, but now, the latest forecast data shows that these storms may be a little stronger and move a little farther to the south, so there is a chance that Telluride will see more snowflakes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Monday/Tuesday (Dec 30-31). A storm should track to the north of Colorado, and this might keep most/all of the snow north of Telluride. We'll see.
Longer Range
Sometime around Saturday/Sunday/Monday (Jan 4-6), multiple runs of multiple models are showing the chance for moderate or significant snow accumulation as moisture increases from the southwest and merges with storm energy and colder air from the west and northwest. Fingers crossed. We need this type of significant system to kick our snowpack upward and closer to the median.
I will continue to dial in the details of the upcoming snowfall, so stay tuned.
