More powder through at least early April

Summary

This week will end with powder in the Rockies, then the best chance for snow this weekend will be in New England and Colorado. Looking to next week, one or two storms will drop powder on most of the western US and maybe Canada as well.

Short Term Forecast

The Forecast for Thursday 3/28 – Friday 3/29

The best chance for powder on Thursday and Friday will be in California (where a storm will be winding down), in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming (as the most energy from the storm will be centered over that region) and in Colorado and Utah (where there should be enough moisture and lift to create low-to-moderate snow totals).

The Forecast for Saturday 3/30 – Sunday 3/31

Over the weekend, the storm in the Rockies may linger with a few inches for New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado. It’s possible that Saturday morning in Colorado could be softer than Friday. In the northeast, there will be rain showers possible during much of the weekend, though precipitation may change to snow by later Sunday or Sunday night.

The Forecast for Monday 4/1– Friday 4/5

I am watching two areas for potential powder next week. The northeast could see snow linger on Sunday night into Monday morning, so there could be some powder there. And over the west, one or two storms will bring snow to most regions, and my early estimate is that the deepest totals will be in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon) and the northern Rockies (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming).

Extended Forecast

The Outlook for Saturday 4/6 – Wednesday 4/10

Even though the map below doesn’t look that exciting, the longer-range models are still showing chances for significant snow from Northern California northward into the Northwest and the Northern Rockies. Also, the northeast could stay cool, though I am not sure if this weather pattern will bring much precipitation for that region.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, April 1.
