No end in sight, multiple storms for the west

Summary

This forecast is not an April fools’ joke! The atmosphere will continue to deliver snow to the western US and Canada with three potential storms coming up in the next 10-15 days.

Short Term Forecast

The Forecast for Monday 4/1– Friday 4/5

While the snow forecast maps are not quite as active as they were during February and early March, there will be no shortage of action for this week and beyond.

Over the west, two weak-to-moderate storms should move from west to east this week, and the western area of Canada will also benefit from storminess coming east off the Pacific Ocean. Over the northeast, there should be light-to-moderate snow amounts from later Sunday into Monday morning as cold air moves on the backside of a departing storm.

The Forecast for Saturday 4/6– Sunday 4/7

There is pretty high confidence across most models that we’ll see a strong storm bring heavy snow to California and other coastal regions from Friday into Saturday. This snow may move east into the Rockies by later in the weekend.

Extended Forecast

The Outlook for Monday 4/8 – Friday 4/12

There is a clear signal in the temperature outlook (below) for below average temperatures across the western US during the week of April 8-12. While it’s too early to know where and when to expect specific storms, this is a good indication that there could be one or multiple powder days between 4/8 and 4/12.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Thursday, April 4.
