Mild Weather Dominates The West, Unsettled Weather For The East

Summary

Dry and very mild weather will take full control over the Western US for the rest of this week, while unsettled weather continues for Canada and down into the Northeast. An active storm track will attempt to redevelop for the Western US during the final days of March and into early April so don't put away your ski and snowboard gear just yet. Let's get into the details...

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wed 3/23 – Thu 3/24:

With the exception of southeast Alaska and the Upper Midwest, quiet weather will dominate much of North America over the next two days and into the upcoming weekend. Classic spring skiing conditions will move into the Western US, while mixed precipitation continues for much of Minnesota and Wisconsin. That's all for Wednesday, March 23 and into Thursday, March 24.

Forecast for Fri 3/25 – Sat 3/26:

High and dry. That will be the forecast as we close out the week and head into the upcoming weekend. The entire Western US will struggle to even receive one fresh flake of snow as a strong ridge of high-pressure moves overhead and brings record temperatures to many locations. If you've been waiting for spring skiing conditions, this is your forecast. Western Canada and parts of the Midwest and into the Northeast could receive light snow but again, the weather will be very quiet for nearly all of North America.

Forecast for Sun 3/27 – Mon 3/28:

Following the heatwave for much of the Western US that kicked off the weekend, we'll end the upcoming weekend with changes in our weather pattern. A storm will try to push into the West Coast on Sunday and into Monday, though the models are still providing us with low confidence in the details. Unsettled weather will also continue in the Northeast as a weak storm develops offshore and brings light snow to New England.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue 3/29 – Sat 4/2:

Unsettled weather looks like it will return to much of the Western US during the final days of March and into early April. The first storm that is projected to slide into California on Sunday, March 27 and into Monday, March 28 gives me hesitation as it's always tough for the first storm to break down such a strong ridge of high pressure. Stay tuned to the Tahoe Daily Snow for the latest updates.

The models are then still figuring out the details but as of now, expect "something" around Tuesday, March 29 and into Wednesday, March 30 for much of the Intermountain West ahead of an even better-looking pattern as we flip the calendar into early April. The potential is there for stormy weather next week but proceed with caution if planning based on this forecast.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Friday (3/25).
