Stormy Weekend For The East, Snow Returns West Next Week

Summary

Low-end powder conditions were enjoyed throughout the Western US early in the week ahead of dry weather and very warm temperatures to end the week. Multiple rounds of mixed precipitation and snow sweep through the eastern half of the US this weekend. Cooler temps and snow return to the Western US during the final days of March and into the first weekend of April.

Short Term Forecast

Past 5 Days

It hasn't been an overly active week but low-end powder conditions have been enjoyed throughout the Western US over the past 5 days. The deepest totals have been recorded at 49 Degrees North in Washington, Ski Santa Fe in New Mexico, and at Brian Head in southern Utah.

Forecast for Fri 3/25 – Sat 3/26:

Dry weather will continue to dominate the Western United States, while multiple storms roll through the Upper Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and up into the Northeast. Zach Butler is very excited about powder potential for the Mid-Atlantic this weekend, which is rare for this time of year considering their low elevation. Get after it!

Forecast for Sun 3/27 – Mon 3/28:

The dome of high pressure will exit the Western US during the latter half of the weekend and bring snow back to California on Monday, March 25. This will be a much-needed relief as they're entering one of the driest January through March periods on record. Elsewhere, southeast Alaska and British Columbia will also receive the goods, though snow levels could be an issue for coastal and interior BC.

Forecast for Tue 3/29 – Wed 3/30:

This is when the action should pick up for the Intermountain West (Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico) as the first of two storms next week slide into the region. The details are still murky at best so keep a close eye on the Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico Daily Snow as Joel, Evan, and Julien clean up the details.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thur 3/31 – Mon 4/4:

Looking ahead to the second half of next week and into the first weekend of April, the storm track will likely focus on the Intermountain West and then onto the eastern half of the US. Warmer temps will continue to prevail, along with a weaker jet stream as we head further into spring so even though stronger storms can never be ruled out, I don't see any significant storms on the horizon.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Monday (3/28).
