5-Day Snow Forecast:

The upcoming pattern in the Eastern U.S. will favor sustained below-average temperatures with a lack of major storms. However, New England just received fresh snow on Thanksgiving Day and temperatures will be good for snowmaking throughout the east as areas open up for the season.

While there aren't any major storm systems expected, cold air passing over the relatively warm Great Lakes will support heavy lake effect snow that will develop immediately downwind of the Great Lakes. Lighter snow showers will also reach Northern/Western New England (especially Jay Peak), and at times, West Virginia and other elevated areas of the Mid-Atlantic.

Forecast for Fri (Nov 29) to Sat (Nov 30):

Lake effect snow showers will ramp up in the wake of Thursday's storm system. Northern Vermont could see sneaky amounts in this pattern and light snow will also reach West Virginia. Across the West, a series of storms will bring heavy snow to Northern British Columbia.

Forecast for Sun (Dec 1) to Mon (Dec 2):

A similar pattern is expected with lake effect snow showers over the Great Lakes and Northern/Western New England, with light snow showers/flurries extending southward into West Virginia and North Carolina. Out west, storms will continue to slam Northern BC but warmer air will also arrive with snow levels on the rise. 

Forecast for Tue (Dec 3) to Wed (Dec 4):

A more organized storm is projected to move through the East during this time, with the potential for widespread light to moderate snow. Confidence in the details is low this far out, however. In the West, the storm track will remain over Northern/Central BC with dry conditions for the Western U.S.

Outlook for Thu (Dec 5) to Mon (Dec 9):

A stubborn ridge of high pressure will remain over the West with above-normal temperatures and dry conditions for most areas. We may see storms push further south into Southern BC and the Northwest U.S. at times, but snow levels would likely be a concern in this pattern.

Temperatures will remain cold across the East with favorable snowmaking conditions and additional opportunities for natural snow across the Great Lakes, New England, and Mid-Atlantic.
