Storm Exits Colorado, Sustained Cold Coming to the East
Summary
A storm produced deep snow totals across Colorado on Tuesday and Tuesday night. Snow will linger here into Wednesday, then the entire Western U.S. will see a drying trend over the Thanksgiving Holiday and beyond. A period of sustained cold temperatures will take hold over the East, resulting in excellent snowmaking conditions while New England will also see a storm on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving Pattern Change:
The weather pattern across North America will flip over the holiday weekend as a ridge of high pressure takes hold over the West while cold air will spill southward from Canada into the Central and Eastern U.S. This cold airmass will remain over the East through the first week of December, resulting in good snowmaking conditions and increased potential for natural snow.
The image below shows projected temperature anomalies over the next 5 days, where you can clearly see the path of cold air from Northern Canada into the Central/Eastern U.S. The Rockies will also remain cold over the next 5 days with soft snow conditions in Colorado and Utah.
Forecast for Wed (Nov 27) to Thu (Nov 28):
Snow will linger over Colorado and Northern New Mexico into Wednesday before drying out on Thursday. Check out the Colorado Daily Snow for the latest snow totals from the recent storm cycle.
Dry conditions will take hold over the Far West, while a storm will bring heavy snow to parts of Northern British Columbia. A few light snow showers/flurries could spill southward into the BC/Alberta Rockies and Northern U.S. Rockies.
A storm will also impact the East with rain for the Mid-Atlantic and snow for ski regions in New England (mixed with rain in lower elevation terrain). The snow forecast for New England remains dependent on small fluctuations in the storm track as it moves up the East Coast, but the potential exists for moderate to heavy totals in some areas.

Forecast for Fri (Nov 29) to Sat (Nov 30):
Cold air will settle over Eastern North America and lake-effect snow will develop on the downwind side of the Great Lakes with locally deep snow totals expected. Snow showers will also develop over Western/Northern New England with flurries possible further south.
The Western U.S. will be dry while another storm will bring heavy snow to Northern British Columbia.
Forecast for Sun (Dec 1) to Mon (Dec 2):
The lake-effect snow machine will continue over the Eastern Great Lakes with deep totals possible. Western/Northern New England (particularly Northern Vermont) will continue to see snow showers, and light snow showers/flurries are also possible over the higher terrain of West Virginia and North Carolina.
The Western U.S. will remain high and dry with additional storms slamming into Northern British Columbia.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun (Dec 3) to Thu (Dec 7):
The cold airmass will linger over the East next week with additional chances for natural snow, favoring the Great Lakes and New England.
The high pressure ridge over Western North America will intensify next week with dry conditions and warmer temperatures. On the northern side of the ridge, storms will impact Northern BC and Alaska, but the arrival of well-above-normal temperatures means that snow levels will rise with rain likely for low to even mid-elevation ski terrain.
Thanks so much for reading and the OpenSnow team wishes you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
Next update on Friday (November 29).
