Snowy Finish to 2024
Summary
A series of storms will impact the West through the weekend and into early next week with deep snow totals for the Northwest and Northern/Central Rockies. The pattern will relax somewhat across the West in early January but storms will continue across the Northwest. The East will see a warmer/wetter pattern this weekend, but cold air and snow will arrive in early January.

Multiple storms will impact the West over the next 5 days with snow totals ranging from 2-4 feet in the Cascades, Idaho, and the Tetons in Western Wyoming. Utah and Northern Colorado will also see 1-3 feet.
Warmer air will impact snow quality from Tahoe into the Central Rockies from Saturday into Sunday with colder air and more powdery snow toward the end of the cycle on Monday.

Forecast for Fri (Dec 27) to Sat (Dec 28):
Two storms will impact the West with deep snow totals for the Northwest and Northern/Central Rockies, extending as far south as Utah and Northern Colorado. Warm air will reach Tahoe in this pattern, resulting in high snow levels and rain for most skiable terrain, especially on Saturday.
The East will also see a warm-up with rain developing across the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic.
Forecast for Sun (Dec 29) to Mon (Dec 30):
A strong storm will continue to bring heavy snow to much of the West. Warm air will lead to wetter/denser snow in the Central Rockies on Sunday (rain will even mix in at some resort base areas), but then colder air will arrive on Sunday night/Monday with improving snow quality.
Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Range will see the arrival of colder air earlier on Sunday with a changeover from rain to snow. The Northwest and Northern Rockies will stay in the colder sector of this storm cycle with lower snow levels throughout the event.
A storm in the East will bring more widespread rain, with only a few areas seeing snow mixed in.
Forecast for Tue (Dec 31) to Wed (Jan 1):
The Sierra and Central Rockies will see a drying trend as we ring in the New Year, while another storm is possible across the Northwest.
A wet pattern will continue across the East into Tuesday, but a cold front will move through on Wednesday with snow possible in some areas.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Thu (Jan 2) to Mon (Jan 6):
A ridge of high pressure will build over California and the Southwest during this period, leading to warmer and drier conditions, but storms passing along the northern periphery of the ridge will result in additional snow chances for the Northwest.
A colder airmass will take hold over the East with snow possible across the Mid-Atlantic, New England, and Great Lakes.
