Big-time powder in the west!

Summary

Multiple rounds of snow will hit the central and northern Rockies this week with deep (but denser) powder. Meanwhile the east will see a break in the cool weather as a warmer and wet system moves through during the middle of the week.

Short Term Forecast

This week’s snow forecast is looking delicious! Snow amounts of 1-3 FEET will be common across the west.

However, the storms will be on the warmer side, especially in California, Utah, and Colorado, so the snow that falls will be heavy and thicker. Think about surfing the snow more than skiing fluffy powder. The map below shows this warmer-than average weather across the west.

Unfortunately, this warmer weather will infiltrate the east. Most models show rain falling in the southeast and mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, with a mix of sleet and freezing raining in northern New England.

Extended Forecast

Looking ahead to this weekend, cool air and snow should return to New England while another storm moves across the western US. This western storm should be cooler, so the snow could be lighter and fluffier.

The outlook for the week of February 13-17 is for cool air to hang across the east while the west warms up and dries out.

If you’re hoping for mid-February powder in the west, it does appear that the weather pattern will change, starting around February 18-20th, and more snow is possible after this time.

Thanks for reading and hope you’re having a great season!
