Snowy Week Ahead for the West
Summary
Heavy snow fell across the West over the weekend, and new storms will arrive every 1-2 days this week with significant snow totals expected for many areas. Late-season conditions will remain excellent with additional powder days on the way.
Short Term Forecast
7-Day Snow Forecast:
Three more storms will impact the West this week with deep snow totals adding up for many areas from California to Colorado to Canada. Temperatures will also remain below average with excellent snow conditions for this time of year.
Forecast for Mon (Mar 17) to Tue (Mar 18):
A storm will impact the West Central U.S. with heavy snow expected across the Sierra and the Central Rockies. In the East, Northern New England and the Northern Great Lakes could see a few light snow showers, but overall quiet conditions are expected.
More details from our local experts...
Forecast for Wed (Mar 19) to Thu (Mar 20):
In the West, another storm will arrive and will take a more northerly track, favoring the Cascades, BC Coast Range, and Northern/Central Rockies for the deepest snow totals, while Tahoe could also see some more snow on the southern fringe.
In the East, a storm will bring rain to most areas on Thursday, with a changeover to terrain-driven snow showers on the back side of the storm on Thursday night. A relatively narrow band of heavy snow is also possible across the Upper Midwest.
Forecast for Fri (Mar 21) to Sat (Mar 22):
Yet another storm will move across the Northwest and the Northern Rockies with more snow expected. There is lower confidence in terms of Utah and Colorado snowfall on the southern fringe of the storm track. Tahoe may also largely miss out on this one.
In the East, some models are projecting heavy snow over New England on Friday but others are much drier so confidence is low at this time.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun (Mar 23) to Thu (Mar 27):
A ridge of high pressure will build over the West next week, resulting in much warmer temperatures along with increased sunshine for most of the Western U.S. at least. There is a chance we could see storms reach the Pacific Northwest, but snow levels would likely be high in this pattern.
In the East, a cooling trend is expected along with an increase in snow potential across New England.
Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday (March 19).
